Testament to the determination of ISMIE policyholders to manage their practice risk is the impressive number of Risk Rewards activities completed in 2007.

More than 6,900 policyholders completed close to 107,000 Risk Rewards activities.

Twenty-seven percent of physicians who participated in Risk Rewards earned the maximum 15% discount, which will be applied to annual policy renewals beginning on or after July 1, 2008.
- Impressively, 222 dedicated physicians completed the Managing Risk Fellowship Program, each earning a 10% premium
discount while lowering his or her risk of being sued. Since the inception of the program in 2004, a total of 570 fellows have earned this designation for their commitment to managing their practice risk.
Coursework evolved to meet practice, physician needs
New seminars for physicians in 2007 included “An Aging Population: Liability Issues in Treating Older Patients,” and “Risk Management in General and
Orthopaedic Surgery.” “Overcoming Communication Barriers in the Office: Telephone Triage, Health
Literacy and Patient Education” made its debut for office staff. Twenty-three new e-learning courses were added to the online course list in 2007.
Ongoing development and implementation of programs and courses will continue throughout 2008, with the use of timesaving technology to enhance policyholder satisfaction.

National award bestowed
The 2007 Institute for Healthcare Communication Program Partner Award was awarded to ISMIE Mutual for its outstanding commitment to improving clinician-patient communication. The Institute stated that for 30 years ISMIE has been “… a strong partner with Illinois physicians in improving patient care and reducing liability risk,” and is “… a leading provider of risk management education as a service both to its insured healthcare professionals and to the improvement of patient care.” ISMIE is deeply honored to have received this prestigious national award.
