You Only Have 30 Days to Renew Your Licenses!

Time is running out! There are only 30 days left to renew your medical and your controlled substance licenses. The deadline is July 31, 2008.

Only 64% of Illinois physicians have completed their medical license renewals. Even fewer – just 52% –  have renewed their controlled substance licenses. Have you completed your renewal or are you among the 36% of physicians whose licenses are about to expire? If you are, ISMIE can help.

Just call our helpline toll free at 800-632-7478. We will assist in renewing your medical license and your controlled substance license, FREE of charge! You will speak to a “live” person on the phone and you can avoid the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) “convenience charge.” The ISMIE helpline is available, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 4:45 p.m.

If you prefer to renew your medical license online, go to the IDFPR web site, and enter the PIN provided on the yellow postcard previously sent to you from the IDFPR. To renew your controlled substance license(s) you must click on the “view subordinate license” link on the IDFPR license renewal page. This link will provide you with your controlled substance number and special PIN to renew.

Don’t delay any further! Renew your license TODAY!

Failure to Renew Your Medical License Has Steep Consequences

What will happen if you don’t renew your medical license by July 31, 2008? Failure to renew your license by the deadline will have severe consequences, including:

  1. A late fee charge of $100 by the IDFPR.

  2. You will be required to produce proof of your continuing medical education for the time period August 1, 2005 through July 31, 2008.

  3. Your ISMIE Mutual insurance policy may be jeopardized.

  4. You may be charged with practicing medicine without a license.

Don’t delay! Renew your medical license today.

If you need assistance, call ISMIE’s helpline at 800-632-7478.

They're At It Again...Supreme Court Rules on the “90 Day Window”

They're At It Again...

The trial lawyers prevailed when the Illinois Supreme Court recently ruled on the issue of the “90 Day Window.”  The result allows plaintiffs in medical liability cases to voluntarily dismiss and re-file a case and still have an additional 90 days to obtain a certificate of merit from a medical provider.

The complexity of the debate surrounding this recent decision can be found on the Illinois Civic Justice League web site. The constitutionality of Illinois’ 2005 medical liability reform bill will soon be heard by the Illinois Supreme Court.
