Part Two: Shoulder Dystocia

Quality patient care and reduced liability exposure of our policyholders are among the most important goals of ISMIE Mutual. That’s why ISMIE Mutual has developed a new educational activity that addresses risks associated with shoulder dystocia, an area of increased litigation in obstetrics.

Policyholders who complete the self-study pamphlet should be able to:

1. Identify risk factors related to shoulder dystocia.
2. Describe risk management techniques for reducing medical liability associated with shoulder dystocia.
3. List documentation and communication practices that can help reduce vulnerability to shoulder dystocia claims.

This new learning opportunity will be available on or near June 1. Look for it at www.ismie.com. The activity is approved for .5 AMA PRA Category 1 credit. A Risk Rewards premium discount of 0.5 % may be earned for successful completion.
