Preparation key to surviving a claim

An updated educational DVD, How to Survive a Medical Liability Claim, is the latest addition to ISMIE’s Claims Survival Kit. Designed for any policyholder named in a lawsuit, the 75-minute presentation covers how to prepare for a deposition, the stages of a trial and how a physician can participate in his or her own defense. The DVD also educates policyholders about ISMIE’s medical liability claims management process.

This tool is also part of the Risk Rewards program. Physicians can earn a 1% premium discount for one policy year and 1.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits ^TM with successful completion of an online test.

Request your practice assessments by April 1

If you successfully passed your first ISMIE Mutual office assessment during 2006, you are eligible for your second assessment. To continue your premium discount, you must request a second practice assessment by April 1, 2008.

Policyholders who have completed a second practice assessment in 2006 fall into two categories:

1. Those who received two or more recommendations Policyholders in this category must repeat the second office assessment. Requests for these assessments must be received by April 1.

2. Those who received less than two recommendations
   These policyholders are eligible for a third assessment, the “Personalized Practice Plan.” Eligible policyholders should have already received invitations, as well as instructions on how to get started. If you think you are eligible and didn’t receive a letter, please contact Risk Management at 312-580-2421.
