Coming this month by U.S. mail to every ISMIE insured is notice of changes and updates specific to each policy and practice. As noted in previous policyholder communications,
ISMIE’s annual rate change announcement and effective date now takes place October 1.

“You say, ‘tomato’, I say – ‘lawsuit!’”

Go ahead, try it: Enter a Google search for “tomato lawsuits” and you’ll quickly be introduced to law firms eager to take on cases of salmonella brought on by tainted tomatoes. One link will take you to a lawyer’s web site that actually has a mug shot of a plump tomato with this caption: Round red tomato implicated in outbreak.

Too many tainted tomatoes will certainly clog the courts – but not with McDonald’s reps, who advised temporary removal of raw tomatoes from the menu. Will lawyer’s efforts to put tomato growers, restaurants and others in the slammer take hold? Don’t hold your breath!
