Seven Physicians Elected to ISMIE Mutual Board of Directors

ISMIE Mutual congratulates the policyholders elected in 2010 to serve on its Board of Directors.  Drs. Alejandro Aparicio, Joan Cummings, Henri Havdala, Harold Jensen, Tim Kisabeth and Wayne Polek were re-elected. Also, Dr. Peter Eupierre was newly elected to serve on the ISMIE Board. All were elected to three-year terms as Directors during the company’s annual meeting held April 14 in Chicago.

Comprised of 21 physician policyholders, the ISMIE Mutual Board of Directors represents a diverse background of practice type, specialty, geographic location, age, gender and length of professional service.

The Board of Directors also voted to re-elect Dr. Harold L. Jensen as its chairman, Dr. Joan E. Cummings as its vice chairman, and Dr. Walter W. Whisler as its secretary treasurer.

Handling Patient Complaints in Your Practice

Does your practice have a standard system in place for handling patient complaints? Having such a system is crucial to sound risk management for you and your practice.

A policy and procedure for handling patient complaints should stipulate that all complaints to staff will be:

  1. Reported to a designated manager

  2. Shared with the physician

  3. Investigated

  4. Followed up appropriately

  5. Resolved

If you have any questions regarding the proper manner to handle patient complaints, contact ISMIE’s Risk Management Division at 800-782-4767, ext. 3300, or riskmanagement@ismie.com.

New Claims Monitoring Survey #4 Helps Serve ISMIE Policyholders Better!

ISMIE Mutual wants to ensure that our Physician-First Service is always working for you, our policyholder, especially when dealing with a medical liability claim. Beginning in May, Claims Monitoring Survey #4 will be added to the survey process to help us serve you better. We ask all policyholders to complete surveys throughout the pendency of the claim and after the claim closes. Feedback on your overall satisfaction with your ISMIE Professional Liability Analyst and Defense Attorney is the best way for us to know how we are doing.  ISMIE Mutual values the time you take to provide us with information on how we are serving your needs.  In an effort to bring you the best Physician-First Service, we encourage you to complete each survey.

Thank you for all the feedback we have received. We look forward to hearing more about how our Physician-First Service is working for you, our policyholder.

If you have any questions about claims monitoring surveys, please contact Christine Renfro, Assistant Vice President, Claims at 800-782-4767 or claims-services@ismie.com.
