Recognizing the need for and value of assisting impaired physicians, ISMIE offers its policyholders a supplementary service: a completely confidential program that aids physicians with problems related to alcohol and drug abuse, psychiatric disability, dual diagnosis, physical disabilities, problems of aging, sexual misconduct, and the stress of everyday medical practice.
Initially developed by and offered through the Illinois State Medical Society, the Illinois Professionals Health Program has no disciplinary authority. It is strictly an advocacy group for physicians and those concerned about them. All participant-related information is kept strictly confidential and is protected by Illinois state law. Not even ISMIE has access to this confidential information.
As part of our physician advocacy and service philosophy, this program is available to all ISMIE policyholders. It is also available to resident physicians who are members of the Illinois State Medical Society and enrolled in accredited Illinois graduate medical education programs.
