Bad News Out of Michigan

August 25, 2020

Earlier this month, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer vetoed a bill that granted health professionals added medical liability protections during the COVID-19 pandemic. Gov. Whitmer had previously provided some front line workers with limited liability through an emergency executive order. That order was rescinded on July 13.

Michigan's legislature was seeking to establish expanded liability protections covering care provided from March 10, 2020, through Jan. 1, 2021.

A two-thirds majority is required to overturn the veto.
