More than 1.3 million COVID-19 related insurance claims were filed between January and September 2020, according to a recent analysis by Definitive Healthcare. COVID-19 was named the primary diagnosis in just under 24% of the cases (316,000), suggesting that it was a co-morbidity in about three-quarters of the cases.
The medical claims data analysis identified these top four pre-existing conditions that increased the patient’s risk of death from COVID-19:
