COVID-19 Cases Are Increasing Across the Country
July 9, 2024
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that COVID-19 cases are rising across the country. Federal officials are reporting an uptick in COVID-19- related emergency room visits and deaths in recent weeks. The western United States is especially hard hit. The summer surge in cases may be due in part to more people traveling on vacations and socializing in the warmer weather. It’s a good reminder that the virus is still active with new variants infecting people even in the summer.
Remind your patients that the CDC recommends staying up to date with COVID-19 vaccines, especially for those individuals over the age of 65.
As you already know, while many people have had several bouts of COVID-19 without complications, there are also numerous patients who do experience devastating and lasting effects of the disease. For a review of the common signs and symptoms, ISMIE offers an on-demand course, A Pandemic Within a Pandemic: What We Have Learned About Post-Acute Sequelae of COVID.
