Another Bad Prejudgment Interest Bill Introduced

March 23, 2021

Illinois physicians have been urging Governor Pritzker to VETO the outrageous prejudgment interest bill (House Bill 3360). Just three weeks before the bill signature deadline, Illinois trial lawyers doubled down with another modified version of a proposed prejudgment interest. The new proposal (Senate Bill 72) was likely introduced due to an anticipated veto of H.B. 3360.
S.B. 72 lowers the interest penalty from 9% to 6% and has several other nuanced differences, but it remains a severely flawed legislative proposal. Last week, S.B. 72 passed out of the Illinois House and now heads to the Senate.
Send a message urging your Illinois State Senator to vote “No” on S.B. 72.
