Call to Action: Urge Veto of Outrageous Prejudgment Interest Bill

February 23, 2021

Thank you to the nearly 1,500 Illinois doctors and health professionals who contacted Governor Pritzker to urge his veto of House Bill 3360!

This flawed proposal, which passed in the Illinois General Assembly, would amend the Code of Civil Procedure to allow interest to accrue on liability judgments. If signed into law, 9% interest would be applicable between the date a defendant receives notice of an injury (from the incident itself or a written notice) and the time of judgment.

As the Chicago Tribune recently noted in an editorial against House Bill 3360, Illinois physicians “already deal in an environment of lawsuit-filing abuse in certain Illinois counties.”

If you haven’t already called or emailed, please send a message to the governor via the Illinois State Medical Society’s Grassroots Action Center. Ask him to veto House Bill 3360.
