Have You Heard About the Teal Pumpkin Project?

October 25, 2022

Children with life-threatening food allergies often have to take a pass on trick-or-treating. Unless their neighborhood is participating in the Teal Pumpkin Project!

This initiative was launched nationally in 2014 by the Food Allergy Research and Education (FARE). How it works is that participants place a teal pumpkin on their doorstep to signal to neighbors that they will offer alternatives to Halloween candy – non-food treats, such as stickers or small toys.

According to FARE, teal is the official color of food allergy awareness and the organization estimates that 32 million Americans have food allergies, including 5.6 million children under age 18. That's one in 13 children, or roughly two in an average classroom.
