Cancer Screenings Skipped During Pandemic Leading to Later Stage Diagnoses

A recent survey of radiation oncologists found an increase in new patients with advanced-stage cancers compared to before the COVID-19 pandemic began. The survey by the American Society for Radiation Oncology was conducted in early 2021. An overwhelming majority of physicians responding to the survey said they noticed their patients had missed cancer screening tests in 2020 due to the pandemic. Major public health organizations are encouraging people to get their cancer screening tests in 2021.
