Renew Your Medical License Now Through ISMIE – Skip the IDFPR Processing Fees!
July 14, 2020
The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) has opened the 2020 medical license renewal process. Due to COVID-19, IDFPR has extended the deadline for renewal (and completion of CME requirements) to Sept. 30, 2020.
In partnership with our friends at the Illinois State Medical Society, ISMIE will again be offering license renewal services – and as in the past, renewing through ISMIE/ISMS will allow you to avoid paying IDFPR’s credit card fee. Due to the public health emergency, renewal for the 2020 cycle will be offered on our website, but phone assistance will also be available:
- To get started online, visit ISMS’ License Renewal web page and enter your name and date of birth, then select “Search.” From there you will complete the online form.
- To renew by phone, please call our hotline at 800-632-7478 and leave a message. Our friendly staff will return your phone call during business hours between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on weekdays.
Remember to also renew your controlled substance license(s) – each costs $15.
Don’t forget, this year physicians are required to take sexual harassment prevention training and controlled substance license holders need 3 hours of continuing medical education on safe opioid prescribing. ISMIE offers coursework that fulfills these mandates.
Renewal processing can take up to five to 10 business days. If you have questions, please send us an email or call 800-632-7478.
