It’s Back-to-School Physical Season for Many Practices!

July 23, 2019

It’s hard to believe, but some children will be back in school next month. If your patient population includes kids, you may be busy providing back-to-school school check-ups, signing school physical and sports forms, and administering the necessary vaccinations.

August is National Immunization Awareness Month. Doctors and their staffs are encouraged to emphasize awareness about the importance of vaccines.

In Illinois, all students entering, transferring or advancing into kindergarten through 12th grades must have 2 doses of mumps and 2 doses of rubella vaccine. Students entering, transferring, or advancing into kindergarten, 6th, or 9th grades must have 2 doses of varicella vaccine.

If you have patients whose families need help paying for childhood vaccines, inform parents about Illinois’ Vaccines For Children (VFC) program. Note that vaccines for Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP)-eligible children can once again be ordered through the VFC Program; for more information, read this article published by the Illinois State Medical Society.
