April Is Child Abuse Prevention Month
The national observance of Child Abuse Prevention Month is dedicated to raising awareness about this important topic and promoting prevention strategies. Physicians and other healthcare professionals are in a unique position to identify child abuse due to the type of relationship they have with their patients and their ability to intervene and report the abuse.
Health professionals also have a legal and ethical responsibility to identify victims of abuse.
ISMIE offers a resource on child abuse to help you establish processes for addressing potential abuse and neglect if you are confronted with such a scenario.
In addition to the resource, an on-demand course is available that meets the requirements for Illinois’ CME mandate for child abuse and neglect prevention training.
