Doctors Report Being Less Happy Than Pre-Pandemic

January 31, 2023

New survey finds happiness rates on the job and at home are lower as pandemic continues

It’s probably not a huge surprise that happiness at and away from work continues to decline for physicians as we enter the third year of the pandemic. A recently released survey reports that fewer than half of physicians who responded said they are currently or somewhat happy at work compared with 75% who responded affirmatively that they were currently or somewhat happy to a similar survey taken before the pandemic started.

The physical and emotional strain of working during the pandemic has also decreased physicians’ happiness outside of work, according to the survey respondents. Only 58% of doctors reported feeling somewhat or very happy outside of work, compared with 84% who reported feeling that way before the pandemic.
