ISMIE offers custom coverage
A new survey finds an overwhelming majority of physicians and other healthcare professionals turn to locum tenens, or temporary assignments, seeking to improve job conditions and address burnout.
The survey by a healthcare staffing agency asked physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants who had recently worked as locum tenens why they chose to do so. The number one reason cited by 86% of respondents was for a better work schedule, followed by 80% of respondents citing the need to address feelings of burnout. Other reasons mentioned for choosing temporary work were unhappiness with compensation (75%) and dissatisfaction with being a full-time employee (71%).
About half of the respondents said they would like to return to permanent positions if schedules, compensation and other practice working conditions met their needs.
