May 3, 2022

Physicians, other health professionals and non-clinical staff are in a unique position to identify victims of child abuse due to the type of relationship they have with their patients and their ability to intervene and report the abuse.
Identifying and helping these victims can be difficult and complex, but it’s important to be aware of the common signs displayed by children in abusive situations and to understand the reporting requirements of the state in which you practice.
Learn more with ISMIE’s resource on child abuse, which covers your legal and ethical responsibilities, as well as how to limit risk. The resource can be downloaded for printing and sharing with your staff.
If you have questions, please contact the ISMIE Legal Division by email.
